Sailing boats and wooden floats are means of transportation were used by
ancestors in Gulf area for movement, goods transportation, fishing and diving.
Today, they are used to be means of sport, entertainment and identifying the
United Emirates heritage.
When all seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates host the
championship of the sailing boats, it becomes a part of the Organization of Maintaining
the Local and the Old Heritage of Arab Gulf States as a mean of transportation
for our ancestors and fathers on the old days.
The sailing boats and floats championship - for 60 foot and 43 foots
which their awards are approximately 3 million and 500 thousand Dirham – is an
important factor to strengthen the generation relationships and deepen the Past
lessons through this sport and the easiness of its inheritance among the
generation.
Salim Al-Remethy, the person who was talking with me about sailing boats which is in the videos, said to that mixture
between the heritage and sport today is one of the important reasons that
heighten the levels of this championship and enhanced its spread an popularity
among the athletes as we are in need to such championships to survive the

He added that championships of
sailing boats are widely popular in UAE to be the street talks and privates
meetings of the people especially the period of preparing for the championship
and the competition days where they are looking for reasons to win or lost
during the periods of manufacturing at the workshops.
He pointed to that different emirates of UAE, especially Abu Dhabi,
Dubai and Sharqa, have more than 1000 sailing boat centres which measurements
are approximately 60 and 43 foots, where their young inhabitants are working
hard and interested in sailing boats and eager to revive its role on life.
He added that the club' role to
revive the sport of sailing boats is a link between the youth with the sea and
make them acquire more naval experience such as dealing with months and lunar
calendar and the tiding and move in regard to coordination by stars and wind
directions and deal with ma many terms related to the experience that may
vanish out through time if we didn’t maintain and revive.
He noted that youth's interest and attraction to participate at this
championship was the most important objectives that the club is seeking with
the support of the political leaders in UAE to be an entertainment when
participating in these championships and competitions to enter in local
original epics that were the subject matter of the old tales at UAE Diwanias.
He explained that the wooden floats championship in UAE hosted boats of
60 and 43 foots with 185 boats run by 17 to 20 sailors leaded by a pilot "Nowakhtha"
who contributes in raise the enthusiasm among the athletes that reach 4000
sailors beside the logistic services providers at the aid and rescue
boats.
Al-Remathy said that the epic of Sailing Boats Championship in UAE is an
original epic that reflects the participation of patriotism for their fathers'
old days which is clear if we check the technical standards and features of
these boats which were maintained by the athletes.
He added that the club is organizing these championships because it
interested in contributing in maintain the heritage of our beloved country
through sport which implies many beautiful concepts that are considered as a
beautiful link between the past and the present.
He declares that the recent sailing boats utilized the modern
technologies that enable them to be more advanced and enable them to move very
quickly through the workshop that were conducted by the athletes. Such
technologies are using the modern sails such as Topgallant Mast "Daqel""
instead of tree trunk to be in Carbonate Fiberglass because of its softness and
it is easy to move.
He invited the marine clubs and Gulf Sates athletes who have sailing
boats to participate in these championships that are organized by UAE. The club
will invite to visit the Gulf State to encourage them to participate in these
heritage competitions for more clubs and exiting and to seek new experience
among the athletes.
The Pilot and the athlete, Mohammed Rashid Al-Remethy, said that as a
result to Emirati patriotism and love to this championship and their
competition, many achievements and local workshops were started to manufacture
these boats which cost 300 thousand Dirham each.
He added that all stages of these championships are well-known of
excitement especially with the high level of competition among the floats with
the start and each float tries to win by using experience, skills, reading sea
coordinators. Wind movement, and tiding where some athletes go along the
nearest ends and the others go through the far ends of the sea in the
championship for a distance reaches 15 to 20 naval miles.
He expressed his relief because of the participation of as large number
as of youth which show an interaction among them with their father's heritage
and at the same time shows the successful policy of strengthen naval
competitions to maintain them as icons
of our precious heritage and this shows the success of club's policy to
maintain the identity of this sport and deepen it into the generation
mind.
He said that one of the distinguish mark of this championship is the
directions by the pilots to the sailors all along the competition and their
instructions that must be followed accurately to get best results and they,
pilots, keep their hands on the helms "kaneh" awhich is a wheel or handleused for making a boat go in pilots' directions which are brief and merely terms that need
sometime rapidness to implement.
The wooden floats championships that are organized by UAE Naval Clubs
and Sailing Boats Council and Sport Abu Dhabi Council witness a convey of a
message to all media and hundreds of tourists.
UAE Sport TVs show these competitions in distinguish and total form and
